I was talking to a poker dealer at The Orleans last year who was also working WSOP events and it was interesting to see the progression of how ragged and just plain tired he was by the end of WSOP but he said he made some serious money in that time and was taking a vacation to recover after. What possibilities are there for advancement aside from moving on to deal at nicer properties on the Strip? I dont know much at all about the inner workings of a casino so I dont know the various positions above a dealer. My understanding is someone learns to deal then auditions and starts in a break-in house, usually an off-strip locals casino or something downtown but where does it go from there? Do many dealers stay at the locals/off-strip casinos long term as dealers (or move up) or is it a constant churn in most of them? What are places to avoid starting out? (one thing Ive heard is the El Cortez is to be avoided like the plague)
